The school in Abramów was established in November 1918. The local council rented the room of 20 square meteres from Mrs Agnieszka Rodak. The school was attended by 60 pupils divided into two groups according to their level of knowledge (elementary and advance).
One year later, in September 1919, the attendance officer from Lubartów formed one year state school with three classes. That year there were already 90 pupils.
During the school year 1929/1930 parents were taking into the consideration the idea of building of the school because there were 172 pupils. Unfortunately the plans did not materialise.
On 1 September 1938 the school had 256 pupils and they could learn in the new two-room building built by Mr Władysław Mazur.
After the outbreak of World War II the school was closed but in January 1940 pupils could learn again.
The postwar period was a rough time for the school. There was the shortage of tables, educational aids, textbooks, notebooks and other school supplies.
In the sixties there were only 3-6 teachers and lots of students. The classrooms were rented from the local people, so the rooms were not adjusted to school needs. The teachers had to go from building to building to conduct lessons.
At the beginning of the seventies the government decided to build a school in Abramów. The local people and children helped with the building of the school.
On 1 September 1975 the pupils started learning in the new building. The local authorities, the youth and the local community took part in that ceremony. That day the school name was changed into Consolidated Borough School in Abramów because the pupils came not only from Abramów but also from neighbouring villages such as Michałówka, Sosnówka, Ciotcza, Glinnik. Wielkie and Izabelmont. The younger pupils from Michałówka, Sosnówka, Ciotcza, Glinnik and Wielkie who attended Years 0-4 could learn at schools in their villages. In the seventies from 290 to 320 pupils attended the school in Abramów.
In the eighties there were from 220 to 240 students at Abramów School.
The date of 22 November 1989 was extremely important in the school history. That was the day of giving the school the name and the banner. The school name became Sienkiewicz Primary School in Abramów after Henryk Sienkiewicz who was the most famous Polish writer awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature 1905. The school banner was founded by Agricultural Cooperative “Farmers Self-Help” and it was hallowed by the parish priest Andrzej Gromada. The writer’s bust and memorial were unveiled too. The guest of honour was writer’s granddaughter- Maria Sienkiewicz.
The school year 1999/2000 was the beginning of educational reform changing 8-year primary school to 6-year and 3-year gimnazjum (lower secondary school). The last educational reform implemented in 2017 reintroduced the 8-year primary school.
Since the school year 2007/2008 there is the nursery school for 3-year-olds, 4-year-olds, 5-year-olds and 6-year-olds.
At Sienkiewicz Primary School the staff currently consists of 23 experienced teachers who teach 162 pupils.
